Happy Halloween!

Try not to bee too down on yourself.

Enjoy the ever present game of knowing."

toula.

We all know that famous line from My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Toula's father constantly says  "every word comes from Greek," throughout the film.

It's hard to believe that little film came out 10 years ago, but I remember sitting in the theatre with my family at this little independent film.

Even though my brothers and I grew up in California, my parents still made sure we knew about Canada and references that were Canadian.

In so many ways, in my household, if something was brought up, my father would nine times out of 10 say, "did you know there's actually a Canadian connection to that?"

Needless to say, you can imagine their shock and delight when we're sitting in the the Park Theatre in Lafayette, California watching Toronto projected across the screen in My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Even better, most of it was shot in the neighbourhood we lived in during the first few years of my life.

Now I'm living here. I went to Ryerson University, which was used as a set for a community college, and most of my classes took place in the exact same building used in the film.

Every once in awhile I find myself walking around, and I notice a store, a scene or what not and can't quite place where I saw it. It happened this weekend when I walked past a wedding dress shop.

Nearly every time it's from My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

Things do come full circle. Maybe that little movie was an echo from long ago about what my life might look like.

Maybe, it's all Greek to me.

Just a thought.

poets.

"So avoid using the word ‘very’ because it’s lazy.

A man is not very tired, he is exhausted.

Don’t use very sad, use morose.

Language was invented for one reason, boys - to woo women.

And, in that endeavor, laziness will not do."

 -Dead Poets Society

Good words from one of my favourite films on this rainy day.

Have a great weekend!

B&W.

After a whirlwind 36 hours, on minimal sleep, I'm very excited to hit the hay tonight.

However, when you spend that time performing to a fanatic audience, working at Canada AM's 40th Anniversary celebration and then falling into an interview/reporting gig at Toronto Fashion Week, life is good.

Time for a glass of wine and some shut eye.

routine.

Lately, I've been really enjoying weekly segments on various news/media outlets and publications.

Whether it's an investigative report or a light look at favourite things during the week, it's nice to see repetition and routine in a world where things are so scattered and moving quickly.

As I have written before, magazine Bon Appetit does some incredible specials (pun intended) about food.

My current favourite is "The Morning Routine" - a photographer snaps what the person's normal routine is in the early hours of the day. This ranges from news reports to Justin Timberlake to chefs.

It made me think about my routine. Because my of my early shifts, I find I have to stick to a set of rules and behaviours in the morning to maximize my time before running to work (and thus, get a few more minutes of shut eye).

However, when those blissful days off arrive, I like to break everything in this routine. For me, it would be having the time to make pancakes for breakfast with a good cup of coffee. Time is a luxury after all.

Check out some of my favourite morning routines below:

23.

It may be raining here, but nothing can get me down today.

Thank you to so many who have called, emailed, tweeted, texted, et cetera et et cetera et cetera me for my birthday (and it's barely even mid-morning!) Y'all know how to make a girl feel very special. I'm blessed with good friends who have become my family.
