castle.

Growing up, my parents took my brothers and I on a plethora of adventures. It wasn't to Africa or Japan, but we lived in such a rich-cultured part of California, that we were able to drive to many of the treasures it held in a matter of hours. One of the most memorable was Hearst Castle. William Randolph Hearst was a huge player in the newspaper world in the early 20th century, and along with architect Julia Morgan, designed one of his vacation homes nestled in the hills of Santa Barbara. It even included a zoo with zebras, giraffes and more animals that you dream about encountering as a kid.

I loved Hearst Castle on our trip - seeing the pools made my day and I still have those vivid memories of looking out the window of the shuttle bus, climbing above the fog down the hill. This is one of those days in my life that cemented my love and interest in art and architecture/media, and gave me such a sense of nostalgia when I saw these pictures pop up on my Google Reader.

Thanks Mom and Dad - this castle was fantastic and I loved our travels.

playlist3.

I know I already did a playlist this month, but being back in school and writing more frequently seems to get my creative juices flowing like crazy. When that happens, I need good music. Here's a more low-key playlist that I've been using for my writing sprees...some are even bands that I've now discovered (and loved) from writing with The Take Media!

"Happy" - Tracy Chapman
"Boy with a Coin" - Iron and Wine
"Slow Dancing in a Burning Room"- John Mayer
"Hey Man!" - Nelly Furtado
"Jameila" - Caribou
"A Thousand Beautiful Things" - Annie Lennox
"In For The Kill (Skreams Lets Get Ravey Mix)" - La Roux
"Pokerface" - The Vitamin String Quartet's Tribute to Lady Gaga
"Each Moment New" - Lou Rhodes
"Bowls" - Caribou

*Actually, go download Caribou's album, Swim. I've been obsessed with them for awhile, and after seeing them live, I feel like I had an out of body experience and just can't get enough of them.

Also - wondering what song is playing when you come to my little corner of the Internet? It's "Angelica" by Lamb (my most favourite artist for years, and continues to be).

I realize that this is a heavy mix of older songs, but some things just get better with age. Let me know what your favourites are, and what you're interested in seeing more of!

Stay tuned this week for a couple of entertaining posts coming up.

cherry.

As humans, we aren't perfect.
We're going to make mistakes and come back changed.
Due to the nature of our lives, life experience and realities of the life we make, things won't always line up.
Although those silly girls giggle too much in public and seem to have a friendship based on nothing - there's always something underneath, which is so special that you don't see it quite so clearly at first.
Stop and think.
Take people for who they are. Life isn't going to wait.

"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."-Ferris Bueller.

There are few things more blissful than hanging out in your pj's and drinking coffee on a sunny Saturday morning.

relax.

"How pleasant is Saturday night,
When I've tried all the week to be good,
And not spoke a word that was bad,
And obliged everyone that I could."
-Nancy Sproat.

I love the weekend and that it's now my favourite time of year - PUMPKIN TIME. Seriously, I like Halloween more than Christmas. Orange is my favourite colour, pumpkins are my favourite fall food (I make a wicked pie and pizza out of it) and you get all dressed up. Oh did I mention it's also my birthday in October? How I love thee season. Enjoy your weekend!

leather.

More NY Fashion Week - Spring 2011.
Burberry Prorsum isn't usually my favourite collection, but again, leather and the studs win me over.

I'm basically in love with Marc Jacobs, as per usual.

gleek.

Favourite quote from The Power of Madonna episode: "I thought I smelled cookies wafting from the ovens of the little eleves that live in your hair." - Sue Slyvester.

Glee starts tomorrow - make sure to watch it! I'm very excited for how they're going to explain/work out the finale. There's something not right about the math of how New Directions didn't win. Oh my, I'm reading into it too much.
