If you didn't know...one of my incredible clients, GetintheLoop.ca has an amazing blog (and team!)
I'm thrilled to be a part of sharing their story - here's one of my favourites:
Blog copy by Mitch Carefoot.
In honour of Get in the Loop launching in Brandon, Manitoba, here’s a bit more about the man behind the city, Mitch Carefoot! You can also read this article on TechVibes.com .
When was the last time you stepped out of your comfort zone?
Take a moment to reflect on this question.
It was this question that lead me to deliberate some of my ownlife choices; mostly, my then-current career circumstances. Let me take you for a short ride through my experience and the decision to step out of my comfort zone.
I had always been fortunate to have good opportunities available with regards to my major life decisions. I graduated from Cornell University where I was a team member and a captain on the varsity hockey team. (If you watched the video, that was me getting hit, resulting in two separated shoulders, a concussion, and cracked sternum.)
I recovered from that hit, was drafted into the National Hockey League, attended a few NHL camps, and played a couple American Hockey League games before going on to play two years in the East Coast Hockey League.

cray.

Life is wild, crazy and utterly fantastic at the moment.

I've got my head down and am knee-deep in several exciting projects. Looking forward to performing in four shows over the next 20 days - 'tis the season!

Thank you to so many for all your support over the last few months...I'm literally running all over the city, but am doing so many things I just love. Pretty lucky.

challenge.

The last few weeks have been out of this world. That's the only way I can put it.

Over the past year I've been dancing (pun intended) on a line between "Corporate Portia" and "Portia the Artist". However, since my move to Vancouver, I've been totally accepted as both.

People in both realms of my career have taken me for who I am, and accepted the other half with open arms.

Dance I broke up for a while, and now we're back together. Journalism and I went through a rough patch...we've now worked things out.

Smooth seas don't make skillful sailors.

Let's go. Challenge accepted.

Express yourself, have faith in yourself.

Don't go looking for a successful personality and just duplicate it."

bombshell.

When I was a little kid, I remember having a big birthday party at my house with more friends than I could count.

I believe it started well. Cake, presents, the usual. Then everything changed.

I went from having fun to being completely overwhelmed by the amount of attention that was on me.

I left my own party and hid in my closet.

It's been nearly 20 years since I felt this way. But yesterday, it happened again.

More than ever before, I am truly touched and honoured with how everything happened during the Vancouver's Next Bombshell competition on Friday. Throughout the night, a series of events and factors played both in and out of my favour, and I ended up placing second overall.

Being a new face in the Vancouver dance scene, I was beside myself to have so much support from my peers and the judging panel.

The day after the show(and many verbal and Facebook messages later) I left another dance rehearsal and couldn't hold it in any longer. That same feeling I had when I was 4 years-old came up, and all I wanted to do was hide for a moment.

I've dabbled and struggled with injuries over the last five years, and never really thought I would dance, much less perform like I did before it.

Tears aren't normal welcome personally, but whether you're 4, 14 or 24, this feeling doesn't change. I'm still in a daze from it all, but realized this was all part of the process.

THANK YOU to everyone who voted and/or supported me this weekend. It doesn't go unnoticed!

lest.

One of my clients posted an amazing quote on their Facebook wall yesterday that really struck a chord with me.

Lest we forget why we have the opportunity to chase our dreams.

I feel like I have been at a very interesting crossroad in my life - I've been studying, analyzing and embracing every opportunity and what not that has come my way, and am making the changes of what's best for me.

Looking back, this wasn't the option at all for our ancestors, or even our parents/grandparents.

I'm taking a moment to remember today. Remember the fallen, those who gave me the opportunity to be better, reach further and go deeper into making my dreams come true.

I won't let them down.

Lest we forget.

marley.

Happy Friday darlings.

If you do one thing this weekend, I highly encourage you to watch the documentary "Marley". It will give you huge insight into this life and more about the background of February's show!

Enjoy.

yolo.

Sometimes, girl has gotta do what a girl has gotta do.

Been an interesting, inspiring and eye-opening week so far. Lots of lessons learned, taught and inevitable for the future.

Have a great rest of the week.
