deep.

"I think there is a certain age, for women, when you become fearless.

It may be a different age for every woman, I don't know.

It's not that you stop fearing things: I'm still afraid of heights for example. Or rather, of falling - heights aren't the problem.

But you stop fearing life itself.

It's when you become fearless in that way that you decide to live.

Perhaps it's when you come to the realization that the point of life isn't to be rich, or secure, or even to be loved - to be any of the things that people usually think is the point.

The point of life is to live as deeply as possible, to experience fully.

And that can be done in many ways."

grazia.

I've had two major breakthroughs on stagein the last 2 years. Both times, it was dancing to music by Lana del Rey.

She's my current style, artistic and creative muse for 2015. I'm absolutely loving this spread in Grazia France.

B&W.

These ladies.

When I was a little girl, I remember my parents getting all dressed up to attend the Black and White Ball in downtown San Francisco.

My mother appeared in the kitchen (where my brothers and I sat at our high counter munching away on supper) in a floor length gown similar to Blake Lively's above. Whenever I hear the words "black and white" that image of her immediately pops into my head.

Sometimes, people do get a chance to attend a fancy Cinderella-esque ball.

Just a thought. Happy Monday friends.

women.

Yay for a sporadic blog post!

It's already August...one of my most favourite months of the year. I feel in the deep of summer and am so pleased with the adventures, work and opportunities I've been able to experience so far. I can't wait to see what this month brings.

One of the biggest things I've come to a complete recognition with is being a woman.

Hear me out.

I'm a self-professed girls girl. I've always been drawn to very feminine energy, actions, causes, art and style.

Since I was a child, I knew exactly what dress I wanted to wear, princess and beautiful things I wanted around me and music I wanted to listen to. It was very, very girly. Unapologetically.

Obviously, I've grown up, but over the past year, I've felt (in the wise words of Britney Spears) somewhere between "not a girl, but not yet a woman."

Since January 2014, I've met some very strong, intelligent and empowering women in both the social media and dance communities. They are the epitome of women - they build each other up, have supported me, and at the end of the day, have taken me for who I am.

On the artistic side, I've found that I'm most drawn to working with women, choreographing and teaching women, and telling their stories. I'm a very feminine dancer, and I've completely embraced that. I can try to be funky and masculine when the performance and director asks for it, but personally, I recognize and love being able to move like a woman and celebrate my body and technique in it daily.

A wise, beautiful role model of mine said to me once, "Your beauty is enough and stillness is power."

I hold these words close to me. Ladies, always remember, you are majestic. You are completely you and don't have to be anything but that.

That's all. Cheers to a beautiful long weekend.

boom.

I'm very lucky to be surrounded by some strong, independent and very creative women in Vancouver.

Last night, I had the opportunity to partake in a "Goddess Circle" by my good friends and colleague, Karoline of Divinity Bones Yoga.

It was pounding rain, but as women from all walks of life entered the RoofTop Yoga studio, it felt like all my troubles washed away.

After our practice, we spoke quite a bit about what we wanted to achieve over the next year. Having just made a major change in my life and moving to another city, I was stumped and had a moment of doubt:

"What else can I do this year? What do I really want?"

I won't lie, I may have looked calm on the outside, but I was stressing hardcore on the inside.

Then it hit me...I want to work stronger, not harder, at everything.

I want to do work that matters and makes a difference - whether that's in dance, social media, writing, teaching, etc., I want to do good work, not just things that pass people by.

Yes, this will be a challenge and I might not be able to do it at full capacity right away (girl has gotta have money to eat man!) BUT, I can start putting those actions into place.

My mantra for 2014: "I wanted to to do it, so I did."

Boom. Let's do this. More to come.

obstacles.

"There is an inner beauty about a woman who believes in herself, who knows she is capable of anything that she puts her mind to.

There is a beauty in the strength and determination of a woman who follows her own path, who isn't thrown off by obstacles along the way.

There is a beauty about a woman whose confidence comes from experiences;

who knows she can fall, pick herself up, and move on."

Happy August my dears.

This is my favourite time of the year - the last true month of summertime freedom, warmth, staying up too late, long walks and weekend getaways.

There are a few things on my desk that I'll be sharing soon, so my blogette may be a touch quiet (especially over the long weekend). Never fear, I'll be back before you know it!

Enjoy the long weekend.

poets.

"So avoid using the word ‘very’ because it’s lazy.

A man is not very tired, he is exhausted.

Don’t use very sad, use morose.

Language was invented for one reason, boys - to woo women.

And, in that endeavor, laziness will not do."

 -Dead Poets Society

Good words from one of my favourite films on this rainy day.

Have a great weekend!

ties.

"If you are lucky, stop seeing the world as a series of things you do not have
— a boyfriend, a baby, an adorable terrier –
and you start noticing the things you do have.
A healthy bank account…No romantic ties.
Loving parents who wanted nothing but happiness for you.
Years to burn.
That kind of freedom is like a command from the universe to get off your ass and do something amazing."

— Sarah Hepola, Every Woman Should Travel Alone

Although not each of these things apply directly to me, I'm using this quote as a mantra for autumn.

Good things are a'happening.
