chosen.

What's the happiest place on Earth?

Disneyland? In your lover's arms? Home?

These past few weeks - between Kelowna, Toronto, NYC and Vancouver, I found home in my chosen families. I've had friends who's travelled far and wide, and those who've stayed close to their roots.

I've struggled with where to call "home" after moving every few years growing up and now as an adult.

Travelling around has made me realize Vancouver is home, geographically.

This weekend, I remembered where home really was.

On stage.
Flanked by dancers. Lights. An audience. I don't even have to move big, far or wide. I can just relax and be.
Welcome to my home.

thanksgiving.

Last year, one of my colleagues said to treat each day like it's Thanksgiving.

That really stuck with me - I'm so healthy, happy and living my dream work-friends-passions-interest-wise.

Last night, I took a step outside of my comfort zone and performed with another dance group in a very different venue, crowd and style then what I'm accustomed to.

In turn, I ended up connecting with some absolutely fabulous women and gents (inside and out!) and was invited to Portland, Oregon to perform in the future.

Needless to say, I'm thankful.

Thankful for going with my gut.

Thankful for the support of my friends and colleagues.

Thankful to be one hundred per cent myself.

As we head into the next week and Thanksgiving weekend in Canada (I'm heading back to Kelowna for some family time, and couldn't be more excited), I'm really reflecting and soaking in all that's happened this past year.

Thanks universe. You've been awesome.

steps.

I've learning a lot this week. It's been busy, full of of challenges and made me realize where my priorities really lie. There are a few exciting projects and bookings on the go...and I can't wait to share more with you soon.

For now, it's me, a quiet evenig in, a cup of tea and Suits (my latest obsession).

Stay tuned dears.

september2014.

Hello September! You sexy thing you...

This month is truly the start of new beginnings, projects and of course, a season. I officially moved to Vancouver one year ago today and I'm not leaving anytime soon. I've completely fallen in love with this beautiful city, people and life here.

There's lots on the go for Portia Favro Productions this fall (including the launch of my website...soon, I'm hoping). Here's a quick hit list:

Saturday, September 6 - The Lovers Cabaret presents: Mistresses - The Encore at Fox Cabaret. Buy your tickets here.

Sunday, September 7 - The Lovers Cabaret Audition for Lovers of Queen - 10:30AM, Harbour Dance Centre (927 Granville Street)

Monday, September 8 - Army of Sass Vancouver Open Level FREE class. Come try a class and join us for our Fall 2014 session - 7PM, The Dance Centre (677 Davie Street)

Tuesday, September 23 - Teaching Army of Sass

Int/Advanced drop-in class. 7PM, 1000 Rivers (54 East 4th Avenue). $15 drop-in.

I'm also working on another secret (and amazing project) as part of my pin-up branding. Stay tuned!

Happy September and enjoy your day off!

toasty.

When I was a little girl, Saturday mornings were my absolutely favourite day of the week.

I loved waking up and racing downstairs to join my brothers to watch cartoons, make brunch with my mother and often go to dance class in the afternoon.

As an adult, this weekend routine hasn't changed too much. Now I jump out of bed on weekend mornings to watch the morning news (well, sometimes...depends how late I've up the night before), and my brunch ritual has mostly stayed the same.

Vancouver is home to a plethora of amazing restaurants, especially for breakfast eats. However, to combat my addiction for good times out, I often choose to make brunch at home.

This weekend I stumbled upon the divine blog, Yummy Supper, and a French Toast sandwich recipe caught my eye immediately. I usually stay away from sweet dishes in the AM so I won't crash later on, but this one is the perfect blend of savoy with a little sugar.

My version did NOT come out pretty at all - hence, no photo - but damn, it tasted delicious.

I used nectarines, mozzarella cheese and half maple syrup and honey for a topping. The results were melt-in-your-mouth good.

Even better? You're completely satisfied after one sandwich. I argue that it's more of a sweet grilled cheese rather than French Toast...but when it tastes this good, who cares?

Cheers and Happy Sunday friends!
