blythe.

"I'm trying to see things in perspective.

My dog wants a bite of my peanut butter chocolate chip bagel.

I know she cannot have this, because chocolate makes dogs very sick.

My do does not understand this.

She pouts and wraps herself around my leg like a scarf and purrs and tries to convince me to give her just a tiny bit.

When I do not give in, she eventually gives up and lays in the corner, under the piano, drooping and sad.

I hope the universe has my best interest in mind, like I have my dog's.

When I want something with my whole being, and the universe withholds it from me, I hope the universe thinks to herself:

Silly girl. She thinks this is what she wants, but she does not understand how it will hurt.

shows.

It's tricky being an artist of any kind.

When I'm not on stage, I'm rehearsing. When I'm not rehearsing, I'm balancing everything else in life around to make sure I can make all my commitments. This leaves little time (and nights off) to take in performances around me.

Looking back, I realized I spent most of my last year in Toronto with my head down working, working, working and attending the odd show here and there.

For whatever reason, I subconciously started making it to various dance, music, open mic and other live performances during my last few weeks in Ontario and right when I moved to Vancouver.

This weekend I'll be tweeting, singing and enjoying several different live performances across Vancouver. Follow on Twitter and Instagram for more updates! (@PortiaFavro)

No plans for tonight? Get a weekly, find a show and go!

top5.

This is my favourite time of the year.

Boots have been tucked away. It's light until 9:30PM. Afternoon meetings turn into evening hangouts and then into late night drinks. Bare legs are the standard fashion, along with a denim jacket.

Summer is so close, we can almost taste it.

This is my first year as an entrepreneur / going out on my own for work, and I hope I can still take advantage of these warm weather opportunities...and a little blogging time, of course! My apologies for being a touch m.i.a. The seeds I planted awhile ago are starting to bloom, and I gotta take time to water them.

But alas, here is my Top 5 for May:

I want these all over my body, all the time.
My good friend Karoline returned from Hawaii about a month ago with a plethora of them in her pockets, and our group of friends has proceeded to slap them on at every social gathering. They're just temporary tattoos, but the metallic shine makes them that much cooler.

PS their Instagram is killer. (@flashtattoos)

Age of Electronica.
We have LED costumes that will respond to the music. Just sayin'.

Salt.
If you can't find me this summer, I'm likely at their Kits location having a $15 wine flight on the patio.

BANKS.
So excited to see this babe perform live next weekend. Favourite track: "Waiting Game".

Bestie.
My main gal is off to Europe for six weeks! I'm thrilled to follow her adventures and live vicariously through her social media posts. Have a blast Alicia!

Have a lovely long weekend.

mistaken.

"It's true, you are terrible at a lot of things.

But there are a couple of things that nobody else does as well as you do.

It drives me bananas that you will throw yourself away completely because of one or two things that you are wrong about you.

That's what breaks my heart.

You got to ignore those and lean towards the things that make you yourself.

Forget everything else. Fake it. Fake your way upwards."

- Matt Berninger, Mistaken for Strangers (documentary)

six.

Six years ago, I fell out of a grande jete and tore my knee apart. I didn't really dance for another three years, and spent a lot of time wearing a robotic knee brace.

One year ago, I was in Vancouver for a huge job interview. I didn't get the position.

Today, I'm dancing and choreographing professionally, have a 3 upcoming shows, clients and am living in YVR.

I chatted on the Get in the Loop blog about "Fail Harder".  I did...and the results (so far) have been worth it.

Life if short. If you want to move, go. Quit your job and start something new. Work harder. Fail harder.

Try it. That's all.
