top5.

It's been a hot minute since I've done a Top 5! The last couple months have been wild - but in the best of ways. New job, new projects, new show...I couldn't ask for more.

Before I head into a busy weekend, here are a few bits and pieces I've been dreamy about over the last bit.

Top 5 for March:

Ranunculus flowers.

Although peonies will hands down, always be my favourite flower. The ranunculus blooms have been sneaking into my heart over the last few weeks.

Scarves.

If money was no object, I'd be picking up one of these NYC-themed scarves to pair with a t-shirt and jeans on these early spring days.

Laundry hacks.

I've been taking a couple of these laundry hacks seriously, and they're making a difference!

Dita von Teese.

Next month I'll be heading to Portland to see the Queen of Tease perform. To say I'm excited is an understatement.

Rose Quartz.
A good friend gave me a piece of rose quartz last summer, and it's been by my bedside ever since. Although I don't consider myself spiritually connected to crystals, I do appreciate the messages and background information about what they mean. A few have come into my life for a few reasons, and are very, very special.

Enjoy your Thursday night loves!

top5.

Getting back into the swing of things...it's time for Top 5 post.

There's no shortage of fun things happening at this time of the year (amist the busy schedules we all have) but these are a few things that caught my eye or have been on my mind lately.

Vogue's Shoot.
One of the most beautiful and raw editorials I've seen in awhile.

How To Be Parisian.
My next read AND the best Instagram account I've followed in a while.

Tove Lo.
Can't stop listening to Tove Lo. My favourite track of the moment, "Talking Body".

Flash Tattoos.
Temporary tattoos for grown-ups. I can't resist covering my arms and pretending I have a sleeve of tattoos. That's what they're for...right?

ORU Vancouver.
I stumbled into ORU by accident with a friend a couple months ago, and it's become one of my go-to cocktail bars. Josh makes a mean pumpkin spice sour and will customize cocktails based on your taste palate. Go, I tell you.

top5.

I've been blessed to have so many cool things, people and events happening around me. Here are a few of my Top 5 picks for August 2014:

Summer Whites.

With denim, in a dress of with your favourite pair of sunnies. Summer whites are just, the best.

Hands down, one of my favourite places to eat, drink and hang out on a patio in Gastown.

The Lovers Cabaret presents: Lovers of Queen auditions.

Audition for the next show in the Icon Series! Sunday, September 7, 10:30AM at Harbour Dance Center. More information available here

Song, video and the girl of the moment.

Robin Williams.
"I stand upon my desk to remind myself we must constantly look at things in a different way." - Robin Williams, Dead Poets Society.

Rest in Peace.

top5.

Well, it's officially the first weekend of 2014 and I'm thankful for the time off after all the festivities this week! I hope you had a lovely NYE and a little too much fun ringing in 2014.

Without further ado, one of my favourite posts to write is a Top 5 - so why not kick off the year with one? Here's what I'm into at the moment:

Leaf TV.
I'm slightly obsessed with Leaf TV's YouTube channel. Yes, their other social media feeds are great, but there's something really engaging about their how-to videos.
Give yourself some time to watch them - even though many are less than a minute long, you'll want to go through them all. You've been warned.

Colony Bar
I love so many restaurants in my neighbourhood, Kitsliano, but it's hard to beat two for one brunch and Tapped Out Tuesdays at Colony Bar. Whenever I have friends visiting, it's my first stop with for a welcome sip and bite.

The best Tumblr I've seen in awhile.

Lenny Kravitz.
All I can listen to at the moment. On repeat: "Again"

A good mantra.
That's all.

top5.

I have officially been in my new Vancouver neighourhood for over a week. Luckily, the weather has been staying warm and lovely, allowing lots of opportunity to set out and explore new places, things and events.

Here's what I'm loving (so far) this month...definitely heavy on some Vancouver tidbits!

Pure Nail Bar

This is the best bang for your buck nail-wise that I've seen in the city. They use individula basins - i.e. no cross-contamination - which gets big kudos in my books.
Also, forget Sex and the City. Pure has TV's playing Modern Family and other hilarious shows to keep you entertained.

Kombucha tea

I was skeptical at first when I heard about this - but a dance colleague recommended kombucha tea after my stomach was giving me some issues the other day. It's an interesting taste for sure, but I love the carbonation.

Mad Men

I'm slowly but surely making my way through the first six seasons of Mad Men on NetFlix. Gotta be ready for season seven, which will premire in April 2014.

Jethro's Fine Grub

I feel like everyone has been chatting about Jethro's, saying it's one of the best places for brunch - especially pancakes. I will definitely be trying to make a stop this weekend.

Lady Gaga

I feel like I was a bit late to "Applause", but the more I listen to it, more I love this track. Welcome back Mama Monster.

top5.

These summer days are just flying by on me - I can't believe the first of August is coming up this week.

I've had some fantastic opportunities to take advantage of both a B.C. and Toronto summer, and it's still not over. My biggest goal is to see, do, eat and explore as much as possible before fall.

Appropriately, I have themed this month's Top 5 list around this warm weather.

Read it, take notes and then get outside and enjoy that sunshine!

Songza.

I'm obsessed with Songza. This "music concierge website finds the perfect playlist based on the time of day, activity and your personal preference of music.

With guest curators, the best of the summer and HBO Girls-themed playlists (Marnie's is my personal favourite), Songza is guaranteed to give you the best music of the season.

The Painted Girls.

I kicked off my summer reading list with Canadian author Cathy Marie Buchanan's "The Painted Girls
Inspired by the Degas's Little Dancer Aged 14 (pictured above), Buchanan paints an incredible story about three sisters, the Paris Opera and one of the era's most famous criminal trials.

If you like historical fiction a la The Other Boelyn Girl, this is a like-minded, well-researched and indulgent read.

Caravan Farm Theatre

Nestled in Armstrong, B.C., the group of players at the Caravan Farm Theatre puts on outdoor shows in both the summer and winter.

Don't be fooled by its location - several of this season's actors have major credits, including work at the Stratford Festival and for Cirque du Soleil. They're performing "Head Over Heels" (a modern interpretation of Shakespeare's "The Twelfth Night" until August 25.

Beyonce

It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of Queen Bey. Her Mrs. Carter tour is coming to Vancouver this November. I got my fingers and toes crossed I can stumble upon some tickets.

London 2012

A year ago this past Saturday, July 27, the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics kicked off one of the best times of my life. I can't believe how much time has passed since the Games - can't wait to see what's to come on social media for Sochi 2014 and Rio 2016!

top5.

Where did April go? It's hard to believe this time next week will be another new month. 2013 is certainly flying by, but with some incredible opportunities.

Nevertheless, April wouldn't be complete without a Top 5...here's what I'm loving this month:

Calendar time.

First, a little shameless self promotion.
After many requests and inquiries about where I'll be teaching workshops, performing and emceeing, I thought it would be best to create a Google Calendar here on my blog for y'all to say updated.
Be sweet and have a peek!

Beyonce for H&M.

Seriously, is there anything this woman can't do? I'm also slightly obsessed with that fantastic ocean blue dress she's donning around the 40 second mark...

City maps.

I love these city maps that have been converted into art by CityFabric Goods. I'm personally loving the Manhattan, Paris and of course, my hometown of San Francisco ones - slightly disappointed there's not a Canadian city on the list yet.

DivaGirl Fitness.
I have been working with DivaGirl Fitness as a licensee for over a year performing and teaching with their entertainment division. I'll still be dancing, but I'm making a jump into their marketing team, working as the Social Media Coordinator. Make sure to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and many other feeds for the latest photos and updates.

Whisky sours.

While travelling back through the US, I picked up a bottle of Jack Daniels to add to my adult bar collection. With this touch of warm weather, I've been loving squeezing fresh lemon juice, making a simple syrup and mixing up a cockatil.

Here's my recipe for a simple whisky sour:
1.5 onces whisky
1.5 onces lemon juice
1 once simple syrup
maraschino cherry for garnish

Speaking of whcih - it's officially the weekend in a short amount of time. I'm looking forward to kicking back and working on some fun projects this weekend.

Happy Friday!

top5.

I've never liked February. It's always feels like a slump month, and literally it is the dead of winter.

However, this year, February has kept me on my toes, teaching, going to shows, with interesting work projects, reconnecting wtih some unexpected people and so much more.

With just a few more weeks until some (hopefully) warmer weather, I'll take an early catch of spring fever any day.

In honour of the month, my Top 5 are a little more whimsical.

Hair chalk.

I have always lusted for a touch of pink in my hair. I'm considering trying out a hair mascara or clip in extensions (just for fun). If you know a good brand, lemme know!

NYWF.

I've loved following the shows at New York Fashion Week over social media this year. With Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Vine and more, it feels like you're almost there.
For now, Style.com's through show reviews do just fine. Even better paired with a cup of tea.

Wicked Game.

I heard a cover of "Wicked Game"by Chris Issak at a show last week, and have had this version on repeat ever since.

"The Box Presents" - Evoke.

Dancers, aerialists, singers (and yours truely) will be performing at this showcase of Toronto talent on March 2 - I'm very excited to see my peers hit the stage in a piece I helped co-choreograph. Check out the event link and leave me a comment if you're interested in tickets!

Mantra.
Wise words from one of my favourite musicians.

top5.

Yikes it got cold outside quickly! That's one thing I'm not sure I'll ever get used to - the change of the seasons is so quick across Canada.

Alas, winter is slowly coming upon us, and that means a good reason to dress up, dance around and celebrate the season.

Hey, if it's going to be cold, we gotta warm up somehow right?

Here is November's Top 5.

A birthday.

First off, the most glamour woman I know (and one of the people I strive to be) has a birthday today! Wishing all the best to my beautiful mother - wish I could be there to celebate with you.

Crystal pins/brooches.

As of late, I'm loving incorporating something sparkly into my daily outfits. I think it helps ward off the winter blues. The easiest way is to pin something glittery on, and voila! Instant glamour.

Calendar.

With everything going digital, a few have asked me "why bother with a calendar?" As a visual learner (and person for that matter) I like being able to count down the days to trips, events, holidays et cetera. Reminds me a bit of being a kid again. I love this one from Luvocracy of the world's famous cities illustrated.

Movie posters.

Forget the posters that used to be on your dorm room walls. When framed and mounted a vintage movie posted can be incredibly chic. I'm on the hunt for a Casablanca poster.

A daily affirmation.

Jessica has got it right.

top5.

Well, hello October, nice to see ya.

It's been a whirlwind of a week and now is Thanksgiving weekend (already!) This is the part of the year I think "maybe it just won't snow this year" and "maybe summer just needed a little break, she'll come back."

Until then (and I know sometimes these thoughts are fruitless) let's embrace autumn in all its glory.

Here is October's Top 5.

Twitter Handle Necklace

During the Olympics, one of the interns named me "Miss Social"as I ran around tweeting and Instagram-ing the Games. A takeoff of the classic Carrie Bradshaw necklace, I would love to get a @PortiaFavro pendant.

 1982 by Jian Ghomeshi

CBC's "Q" host Jian Ghomeshi has released his first book, 1982. It's all about his entering his grade nine year of school, and his attempt to be David Bowie. Awesome.
Check out this interview:

Smoking Slippers.

Almost as comfortable as your bedroom slippers, but socially acceptable to wear in the real world.
I prefer mine with as much shine, sequins and studs as I can get.

The Fall List.

Staying in Toronto this summer was fantastic. Now that I'm here for another year I'm hoping to conquer my list of things to do and see this season.
I already completed one! Off to a good start.

Pumpkins.

You know me by now. It's the most wonderful time of the year - pumpkin season. I'm decking out my new apartment in all things orange and gold until Christmas.

Have a lovely weekend and Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

top5.

After two days of training, I'm feeling like could use a few extra hours of sleep, but also completely invigorated with the world around me.

Good things happen. Hard work pays off. Sometimes if you're lucky, you might get a chance to get to work and experience one of your dreams become a reality - even more a split moment.

On another note, I picked up one of my favourite weeklies - Toronto's The Grid, which always has interesting stories, polls and the link about the best of the city.

Walking home from work today, maybe it was because I was feeling pumped on life, or maybe it was the sunshine, but I decided it might be fun to make this month's Top Five all about Toronto.

Shakespeare at High Park

The Canadian Stage Company is performing one of my favourite plays, Much Ado About Nothing at this summer in High Park.
Even better? It's pay-what-you-can.
Where: High Park Amphitheatre (1873 Bloor Street West)

Dark Horse Espresso Bar

You're paying the same price as Starbucks, but the coffee is much, much better.
Plus, there's chandeliers at the Spadina location.

EuroCup 2012 at the Reference Library

I'm not enamoured with the EuroCup, but you gotta admit, streaming it on a big screen at the library is pretty cool.

The Gladstone Hotel.

This is by far one of my favourite venues to see music in Toronto. I've been lucky to see the drummer of Caribou there jump in with another band, attend many a Elvis Monday, and am always interested in the new artists they have coming through.

If you listen to one thing all day, make sure it's this:

I probably blogged about this before, but I can't get enough.
Before the fireworks and BBQ's on Canada Day I will definitely be catching a free screening of their featured films.
Next Tuesday, I'll be doing my best to catch one of my favourite classics, Jaws - now in a "director-approved digital restoration".
(PS I am dying for this shirt)

Have a great rest of the week and a Happy Canada Day weekend!
