home.

"Home is the result of intersecting lives.

It is the secondary color created by individuals in relationships...yes, home is the landscape of people, places, and things up which we live out life.

But, it is mostly about people.

That is why home can be a suburban neighbourhood, or a struggling farm or a ship at sea, or a war-torn nation.

After all, home is where the hearts are."

- Austin Sailsbury in Kinfolk Magazine, Volume V: In Search of Home

When people ask where I'm from, my answer is often determined by how long I'll be socializing with them.

After moving around a couple times during my childhood, high school years, then off to university and beyond...I don't have a solid "hometown".

However, I have divine friends and contacts throughout Canada, the U.S. and the world, so the above quote certainly hits home (no pun intended) for me.

gracias.

I'm very pleased to announce that I've had the highest amount of visitors to my blogette, ever, this past month.

To all my readers, skimmers, photo junkies, dance nuts and such, thank you for taking a couple moments to peek at my musings.

I never dreamed that this little site that I created solely to curate my favourite things of the moment, along with test out more styles of writing, posting, et cetera, would blossom into the Sunrise Junction it is today.

Anywho...just thought I would say merci beaucoup for the love - enjoy the last long weekend of summer!

bond.

Little known fact: I'm a huge James Bond fan. Needless to say, I'm very excited to see new film, "Skyfall" and also take in the "Designing 007" exhibit happening at the TIFF Lightbox this fall.

Another fun fact? When I got my Toronto phone number, the the digits include 007.

Meant to be.

Have a lovely rest of the week and divine weekend. I'm escaping to cottage country and am unplugging from the world for 48 hours. After an amazing summer of everything social media (which I love and comes as naturally as swimming in a lake to me) I'm turning off.

Enjoy!

4th.

Happy 4th of July!

If you didn't know, I was lucky enough to grow up in the San Francisco Bay Area and celebrate both Canada Day and the fourth of July every year.

The fourth has always been a special day for me - I remember dancing, biking, marching and what not in parades every year.

I remember a carnival at the local recreation centre where my best friend's mom worked. We spent hours playing carnival games, eating too much cotton candy and running around with sparklers and streamers.

At night, my parents drove us up to the highest hill near our home, where we could literally watch every firework show from San Francisco to Oakland to San Mateo.

Happy birthday to my second homeland. Thank you for all those memories!
PS check back this weekend for my picks from Paris Couture week (I'm currently drooling over everything Chanel...)

lipstick.

I've been a Kate Spade girl my whole life.

I remember holding my mother's hand while she carried the classic striped purses (both real and not-so-much), and must have looked like we were walking within the ads. The Grant Avenue store in downtown San Francisco is my mecca - white crown moulding, bright colours and perfectly-manicured saleswomen. It is a throwback back to when ladies used to really dress for the day, wear gloves and never smeared their lipstick.

I know perfection isn't always possible, but Kate Spade is pretty darn close to it for me.

That's why I'm over the moon excited about their new collection. Being a writer and English literature enthusiast, I almost flipped when I saw their new book clutches. I'm trying to figure out how to get my hands on one of these lovelies (preferably the Romeo and Juliet one, hint, hint).
